Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any requirements about the type of ticket?

Yes. It must be an Advance ticket type. Sometimes called Advance Purchase or Advance Single or something similar.

Off Peak and Anytime singles and returns, Season and Flexi Season, Pay As You Go, Oyster and Travelcard type tickets are not eligible to earn Rewarding Rail points.

We do accept Advance tickets bought with a railcard, or any other discounts or promootions.

Does it matter where I buy my ticket?

No. You are free to buy your Advance tickets anywhere you like. This can be directly from train companies, such as LNER, from third-party ticket retailers, like Trainline, or in-person at train station vending machines and counters.

Which train companies can I earn points on?

Any rail passenger journey made within Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) on any train company, for which you hold a valid Advance ticket type, is eligible to earn points.

When do I have to send you my ticket?

After you have travelled. You can submit your ticket up to 30-days after the date of travel - as displayed on the ticket itself.

How many points will I earn?

5 points per mile. We calculate the approximate distance as travelled via the rail network. Note this may vary from ‘as the crow flies’ and driving distance calculations. Distances calculated by Rewarding Rail are final and cannot be appealed.

How long does it take to credit my account with my points? And how quickly can I redeem my points?

After sending us your ticket, you should receive a trip summary within 24 hours. We aim to add earned points to your account within 48 hours of your confirmation that those trip details are correct.

You can initiate a points redemption as soon as you receive the email confirmation that the points have been added to your account. We aim to complete redemptions with 24 hours.

Will I earn more points if I travel in First Class?

No. Your class of travel makes no difference to how many points you will earn. Standard, Standard Premium and First Class travellers all earn the same 5 points per mile.

Can I redeem my points as cash instead of as vouchers or credits?

No. We only allow the redemption of your Rewarding Rail points into LNER eVouchers or, for our First Class members, as Uber credits. Both of these methods allow you to pay (or part pay) for rail tickets.

How long are my points valid for?

13 months. Your points remain valid up to 13 months from the date of travel on your original ticket.

For example, if you earned 100 points for a train journey you took on 01 January 2024, then your points earned from that trip are valid until 31 January 2025.

If you are a Premium member, then your points remain valid for up to 25 months from the date of travel.

Does it matter if I claim Delay Repay?

No. You earn the same points regardless of whether your train was late and you claimed Delay Repay for that inconvenience.

What personal data do you keep about me?

Any emails and tickets that you send us are retained so that we can calculate your current points balance.
