What is Rewarding Rail?
Rewarding Rail is a customer loyalty programme for rail passengers in Great Britain. Users earn points based on distance travelled on eligible rail tickets. Those points can be redeemed for savings on future rail tickets, or towards food & drink, entertainment and other travel related perks.
Do I need an account to start earning points?
Yes. You are required to sign up for a Rewarding Rail account to start earning points.
How do I join Rewarding Rail?
While submitting your first rail ticket, you will be asked to create a Rewarding Rail account. You only need to provide your name and email address to register your account and start earning points.
Collecting Points
Can I submit any train ticket to earn points?
Currently, only Advance rail tickets are eligible to earn Rewarding Rail points. Please refer to National Rail’s explanation of different rail ticket types for more details. To be eligible, your Advance tickets must be submitted to Rewarding Rail within 30-days of the date of travel. You may also submit your Advance tickets any time before the date of travel.
Do you accept tickets from all train companies?
Yes. We accept Advance tickets sold by, or for travel on, any train operating company in Great Britain. A full list of train operating companies can be found on the official National Rail website.
Can I upload paper tickets or just e-tickets?
You can upload both paper and e-tickets to earn points. Please use our online ticket submission process to upload your e-ticket, or a clear photograph of your physical rail ticket.
Can I combine Rewarding Rail rewards with other discounts?
You can earn Rewarding Rail points on most discounted rail tickets, including the use of railcards, rail staff travel (RST) and other promotions. The only requirement is that the ticket must be an Advance Single type rail ticket. You can even participate in the reward programmes of specific train operating companies – such as LNER Perks or GWR Rewards – and still earn Rewarding Rail points too. Delay Repay claims do not impact your Advance Single ticket’s eligibility to earn Rewarding Rail points.
How many points will I get for my journey?
You will earn five Rewarding Rail points for every mile travelled on an eligible Advance rail ticket. This is calculated based on the ‘as the crow flies’ distance between the origin and destination stations. We provide our Points Calculator that you can use to see how many points you can expect to earn for any given journey.
Can I track my points and rewards online?
Yes. Accessing the Submit a Ticket process will show your Rewarding Rail points balance once you authenticate your email address.
How long does it take for points to appear in my account?
Points are usually credited instantly. On rare occasions it may be necessary to manually review your submitted ticket. In these cases, we aim to credit your points within 24 hours.
Redeeming Points
What can I use my points for?
Free members can redeem points for discounts and vouchers for future rail tickets. These vouchers can be used towards rail tickets with any train operating company in Great Britain.
Premium members may also redeem points with our loyalty partners, including Costa Coffee, Greggs, Seatfrog and Uber. A full list of our loyalty partners can be found on our How to Redeem page.
How do I redeem my points for rewards?
We are still fine-tuning and testing our self-service redemption processes. In the meantime, please email your redemption requests to redeem@rewardingrail.com
Do my points expire if I don't use them?
Yes. As a Free member, your Rewarding Rail points will expire 12 months after the date of travel on your ticket(s).
Premium members enjoy an extended validity period of 24 months from the date of travel.
Is there a premium membership, and what are its benefits?
Yes. As a Premium member you will enjoy a number of additional benefits. Your Rewarding Rail points will remain valid for twice as long, 24 months instead of 12 months for free users. You may also chose to redeem your Rewarding Rail points with our loyalty partners, including Costa Coffee, Greggs, Seatfrog and Uber. How do I become a premium member?
You can become a Premium member at any time. Simply follow the Upgrade to Premium links. This will navigate you to our secure online payment page, where you can pay the £12 annual membership fee by credit or debit card.
Miscellaneous
Are there any mobile apps for Rewarding Rail?
Not at the moment. However, we do have ambitions to develop native mobile apps for both Android and iOS devices.
Can I use Rewarding Rail on my mobile phone?
Yes. Our Rewarding Rail website and the Submit a Ticket portal are mobile accessible.
Is my personal info safe with Rewarding Rail?
Yes. Rewarding Rail only asks for your name and email address. These are stored using industry standard data security rules and processes. We do not ask or store any other personal information. All your trip data is retained in our database in an anonymised format.
